The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) co-hosted the Motion + Power Technology Expo (MPT Expo) and ASM Heat Treat that welcomed 4,425 industry professionals October 21-23 at the Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, the MPMA Fall Technical Meeting (FTM), the premier gear and bearing technical conference in the U.S., gathered the foremost experts from around the world.
The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) is pleased to announce that power transmission engineer, Lance Brown, will join the organization as its first Senior Technical Instructor. Brown spent his entire 28-year career with CGI, Inc, recently purchased by The Timken Company. Brown will both instruct industry professionals on a variety of gearing and bearing classes, and also develop intellectual property for the Alliance.

The gear and motion control industry mourns the passing of Barney Berlinger, founder of ASI Technologies and longtime contributor to the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA). A respected engineer, entrepreneur, and leader, Barney’s impact on the industry spanned decades and will not be forgotten.
The American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FEDERTEC—the Italian association representing the fluid power, automation and power transmission industries and technologies in March of 2024. The partnership was finalized to translate AGMA’s newly redeveloped, on-demand Workforce Training Series courses in Italian.

On April 24, at the AGMA/ABMA Annual Meeting in Austin, the membership of each association voted unanimously to approve a merger between AGMA and ABMA, creating the Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA).
AGMA and ABMA will continue to keep their names in the marketplace as the 108-year-old AGMA brand and the 107-year-old ABMA brand have significant history and value to their respective memberships.
The American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) and the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA) merged to form the Motion and Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) at the AGMA/ABMA Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. At the recently held AGMA/ABMA Annual Meeting, Sara Zimmerman, Vice President of Customer Experience and Product, Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America, was announced as the inaugural Chair of the Motion and Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA). The MPMA is a newly formed organization, bringing together the strengths and legacies of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) and the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA).

The American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) announces changes to its Board of Directors at the AGMA Members' Meeting during the Annual Meeting in Napa, CA. “AGMA would not be where it is today without the passion and diligence of its Board of Directors,” said Matthew E. The American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) announced the promotion of Jenny Blackford to the organization’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) today. In her new role, Blackford will oversee the association’s systems and processes, enterprise wide. In addition, she will have expanded roles relative to human and technology resources and investments.

Fred Young, 80, former president and CEO, Forest City Gear passed away on July 17, 2023. A graduate of Harlem High School, class of 1961, Young obtained his BA in English Literature from Rockford University, class of 1965, and went on to spend a year in the Navy Reserves. After spending nearly 40 years as an adventuring bachelor outdoorsman, he met the love of his life, Wendy Nutter, marrying her on the banks of the Wolf River on June 6, 1981. Fred’s greatest joys were his three daughters, whom he taught to always seek adventure, bestow kindness and generosity, treasure friendship, and work hard and play hard. Fred took over the family business, Forest City Gear, in 1967. Founded by his parents in 1955, Fred took the small mom-and-pop shop to a global level, leading the company to manufacture some of the world’s most difficult gearing for amazing end uses from NASA’s Martian rovers and space station to robotic arms and racing yachts.
