MPMA Launches New eVTOL & Drone Technology Committee to Advance the Future of Aerial Mobility

The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) is forming a new emerging technology committee: the eVTOL & Drone Technology Committee. The inaugural virtual meeting will take place on Thursday, January 22, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. This new group will examine this fast-moving sector where electrification, lightweight materials, distributed propulsion, and high-precision drive components intersect. As aerial mobility platforms move from prototype to commercialization, gear and bearing manufacturers are uniquely positioned to support their success. MPMA aims to ensure its members possess the knowledge, connections, and technical expertise to effectively support this new technology.

How This Fits into MPMA’s Emerging Technology Vision

The new committee expands MPMA’s already robust Emerging Technology ecosystem, which includes ongoing efforts in robotics and automation, metal additive manufacturing, IIoT/AI, and electric drive systems. Those groups have generated white papers, webinars, and technical discussions that have helped members understand disruptive technologies and their impact on gear design and manufacturing.

By adding a dedicated focus on eVTOL and drones, MPMA is intentionally extending its reach into a sector where many of these emerging technologies converge. Electrification, lightweighting, automation, and digital engineering are all tightly integrated in aerial mobility, making it a natural evolution of the association’s foresight efforts.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the eVTOL & Drone Technology Committee signals MPMA’s commitment to supporting members as new industries create new opportunities. As aerial mobility continues to mature, the demand for innovative gear and bearing solutions—from compact high-speed reduction drives to advanced bearing systems—will grow exponentially.
