The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) co-hosted the Motion + Power Technology Expo (MPT Expo) and ASM Heat Treat that welcomed 4,425 industry professionals October 21-23 at the Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, the MPMA Fall Technical Meeting (FTM), the premier gear and bearing technical conference in the U.S., gathered the foremost experts from around the world.
The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) presented numerous awards during the 2025 Fall Technical Meeting (FTM) Awards Luncheon in Detroit, MI. The event took place on the first day of the FTM, which was co-located with the Motion + Power Technology Expo. Awards were presented to MPMA technical committee members who have published a document within the last year.
The Motion + Power Technology Expo (MPT Expo) returns to Detroit from October 21–23, 2025, bringing together a comprehensive cross-section of the mechanical, fluid, and electrical power transmission sectors. Hosted in one of North America’s manufacturing hubs, the event serves as a convergence point for engineers, technologists, researchers and decision-makers involved in the design, production and integration of power transmission systems.
If your work touches mechanical power transmission components, the answer is an overwhelming YES! For example, if you design machinery with gears or bearings, MPT Expo is for you. If you maintain plant equipment that requires replacement of mechanical components, MPT Expo is for you!
Dontyne Systems (Booth #213) has released a second update to the Gear Production Suite (GPS) in 2025 to reflect the volume of recent technical additions. Originally developed in 2008, GPS integrates gear design, machining simulation, and inspection data into a single environment to identify and mitigate manufacturing issues at the design stage.
On April 24, at the AGMA/ABMA Annual Meeting in Austin, the membership of each association voted unanimously to approve a merger between AGMA and ABMA, creating the Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA).
AGMA and ABMA will continue to keep their names in the marketplace as the 108-year-old AGMA brand and the 107-year-old ABMA brand have significant history and value to their respective memberships.
Randy Stott, publisher of Power Transmission Engineering and Gear Technology magazines, recently sat down with Norm Parker, technical fellow and technical manager for Torque Transfer Systems at Stellantis, to discuss bearing technology during the Motion + Power Technology Expo in Detroit.
There are many ways we like to connect with our audience—in print (obviously), by e-mail, online at powertransmission.com, in person and via social media.
Motion + Power Technology (MPT) show brings together the gear and power transmission industries for a unique balance of education, new technologies and networking opportunities. The show takes place October 17-19,2023 in Detroit.
Trade show and event season is upon us. This issue we feature several upcoming shows that are extremely important in terms of mechanical power transmission components and the technology of motion control.
After reading Senior Editor Matt Jaster’s article this issue (“Advancing Technology for MRO,” p. 18), I have visions of the maintenance engineer of tomorrow. He’s not wearing a hard hat and steel-toe boots. No, he’s wearing ripped jeans and a ball cap (backwards), and he’s holding a game controller, because he’s operating the drone system your company is using to do visual and thermal inspection of your equipment, saving you enormous time and effort in your predictive maintenance routine.
