Timken Invests $5 Million in Induction Heat Treat Line

The Timken Co. announced plans to invest $5 million in a new induction heat treat line at its steel plant in Canton, OH, that will increase capacity on heat-treated steel bars and tubing. The new line will harden (quench and temper)bars and tubes up to 7" in diameter. It also will be capable of other heat treatments such as normalizing and stress relieving. According to the company's press release, overall plant capacity wil increase across size range up to 11" in diameter. "The added capacity will allow us to capitalize on significant opportunities in the global energy, industrial, automotive and distribution markets," says Linn Osterman, vice president of sales for Timken's steel group. Installation of the new line is expected to begin in January 2007 with completion by March 2007.
