Metlab has completed the upgrade of one of its large pit carburizing furnaces, which doubles its capabilities for carburizng, nitriding, quenching and tempering. Components up to 14 feet in diameter by 12 feet in width can now be carburized. Included in the upgrade is the installation of a nickel base alloy retort to maintain the appropriate furnace atmosphere, new burners and burner controls and other instrumentation. The two furnaces now sit next to one another. Two quench tanks for oil or water medium quench operations sit adjacent to the new furnaces.
