Setra Offers Industrial Pressure Sensing Technology at Sensors Expo

June 1, 2012

Setra Systems, Inc., a global designer and manufacturer of pressure measurement instrumentation for industrial, test and measurement, HVAC/R, semiconductor, energy, environmental, medical, pharmaceutical, and meteorological requirements, recently announced that it will be promoting its latest industrial pressure sensing technologies as an exhibitor at Sensors Expo & Conference, June 6 and 7, 2012, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

The Model 3100/3200 series of compact, high-accuracy, low-cost high-pressure transducers will be on display at the show. Available in standard (Model 3100) and heavy duty (Model 3200) versions, the sensors offers a ±0.25 percent BFSL full-scale accuracy, with long-term stability of better than ±0.1% FS/Yr over its full operating temperature range of -40° to +221°F (-40° to +105°C). The series is available in standard ranges from 50 to 32,000 psi (4 to 2,200 bar) with up to 3x overpressure protection and choice of mA, voltage or ratiometric output. Voltage output versions are available with dual temperature and pressure outputs. The choice of multiple outputs, as well as various options for electrical and pressure connections, makes the units suitable for most applications as standard without need for modification. Its small footprint diameter, measuring less than one inch (25 millimeters) allows for ease of installation in space constrained environments. The Model 3200 heavy duty version offers a thicker diaphragm and optional restrictor or snubber for use in environments where extreme positive or negative pressure spikes may be of concern. The series is suitable for larger volume, low-cost OEM applications, including medical devices and diagnostic equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, HVAC/R compressors, variable speed pumps, refrigeration systems, industrial pumps and general industrial pressure monitoring applications.

Also on display will be Setra Systems Model 209 variable capacitance pressure transducers, designed for extreme environmental OEM and industrial applications where cost may be a concern. The Model 209 is available in pressure ranges from 1 to 10,000 psig, with choice of gauge, sealed gauge, or vacuum pressure, and choice of 4-20 mA; 0.5 to 5.5 VDC; 1 to 6 VDC; or 0.5 to 4.5 VDC outputs, ±0.25 percent BFSL full-scale accuracy across all ranges, and various pressure and electrical connector types to suit exact requirements. Units operate from a standard unregulated DC power source, for lower overall operating costs. A high overpressure option is also available at 50 to 1500 psi ranges for greater performance survivability where overpressure may be a concern. The transducers operate over a wide temperature band of -40° to +85°C (-40° to +185°F) for stable output performance. Its stable performance and high-reliability within extreme environments make it ideally suited for industrial OEM machinery and equipment, hydraulic systems, compressor control and monitoring, HVAC/R equipment, industrial engine pressure monitoring, and process and containerized refrigeration systems. The high survivability characteristics of the Model 209 also allow it to be used in high shock and vibration environments.

Also featured will be the industry best-selling AccuSense Model ASM, nominated for a 2012 "Best of Sensors Expo" Award. Setra Systems AccuSense Model ASM is ideal for high-tech industrial, laboratory R&D and test cell requirements, including engine diagnostics, refrigeration testing, engine dynamometer testing, particle and test analysis (porosity testing equipment), or as a performance upgrade within legacy pressure sensing applications. Its design combines Setra Systems own patented, field-proven, capacitance sensing technology with the very latest in electronic circuitry design, including integral digital signal conditioning.

The patented AccuSense Model ASM (U.S. patent # 6,532,834) ensures excellent linearity and stability, with BFSL full-scale accuracy of ±0.04% (±0.05% full-scale via end point method), or ±0.1% of reading.  The pressure transducers are also temperature compensated, with a total error band (TEB) of less than ±0.25% full scale, minimizing thermal errors, and making outputs virtually unaffected by wide environmental temperature shifts. A hydrophobic porous plug at the top of the unit also protects its recessed air vent from environmental contaminants. The transducers also offer high RFI immunity from wireless devices, for optimal signal output clarity and accuracy. This design also allows an industry best-in-class high overpressure protection of up to 10X full scale range, enabling it to survive unforeseen system pressure spikes without sensor damage. Units are available in ranges from -14.7 to 1000 psi, with choices of gauge or absolute pressures and 0 to 5 VDC, 0 to 10 VDC, or 4-20 mA outputs, as well as various pressure and electrical connector types to suit exact user requirements. Sensing elements of the Model ASM are packaged in a fully laser-welded stainless steel housing, measuring just 1.3 inches (33 millimeters) in diameter. This compact size allows for easy installation within space constrained environments, allowing the Model ASM to be used as a drop-in replacement upgrade for legacy sensors of the same footprint, particularly where improved measurement capacity, thermal compensation, tighter total error band and higher accuracy are absolute requirements.
