Timken Wins Distributor Award for Type E Tapered Roller Bearing Housed Unit

The Timken Company received the 2018 Manufacturer Excellence Award from the Bearing Specialists Association (BSA) for its Type E Tapered Roller Bearing Housed Unit which offers nine points of sealing designed to prevent damage to critical bearings against dirt, debris and water ingress. This marks the third consecutive year Timken has captured a BSA award for excellence in product design.

“Our constant focus is increasing uptime with stronger solutions, and we’re honored to be recognized for our contributions,” said Doug Knauf, vice president. of U.S. distribution and regional OEMs for Timken, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. “This award demonstrates that the distributor community believes our design is superior and adds value to the customer. That confidence is something we work hard to earn every day.”

Timken Type E housed units feature a triple-barrier internal seal and rigid middle labyrinth to help retain grease and greatly reduce the threat of contamination where bearings operate in harsh environments. Also, enhanced internal seal material provides two times the abrasion resistance of standard nitrile seals. The result is a mounted bearing that protects longer against contamination and moisture.

Timken Type E housed units deliver extra protection for rugged applications using a multipoint sealing system to fight contamination in steel mills, cement plants, mines, quarries and wherever heavy machines operate. One sand and gravel company in Alaska installed Timken Type E Tapered Roller Bearing Housed Units in an inclined screw conveyor. Previously, the customer was replacing bearings every four months, but after installing the Timken product, the bearings ran uninterrupted for approximately two years.

“Customers looking for a cost-effective solution to keep their bearings running in the toughest conditions will find a wide range of options from Timken,” added Cory Shaw, Timken general manager for housed unit bearings.
