Timken Approved for Bearing Repair on GE’s CF34-3 Aircraft

The Timken Co. announced that its aerospace aftermarket solutions subsidiary, Bearing Inspection, has been named by GE Aircraft Engines as an approved source for repair of bearings for the CF34-3 aircraft engine, including main line bearings for the CF34-3. The CF34-3 engine is installed on the Bombardier Challenger business jets as well as the CRJ100/200 regional jets. According to the company's press release, approximately 3,000 of these engines are currently in service. The GE approval applies to all Level 1 and 2 bearing refurbishment and repair. This includes cleaning, inspection, lubrication, replacement of rolling elements, plating of components and superfinishing of bearing raceway surfaces. "The CF3-3 approval represents another step forward in the continuing expansion of the scope of our aerospace reconditioning programs as we deliver increased value to global customers," says Drew Baker, general manager in Timken's aerospace aftermarket group. "Airlines and engine overhaul shops will clearly benefit from Timken's commitment to the aerospace market in enhancing power transmission performance through innovative friction management technologies and cradle-to-grave program support." All bearing repairs will be performed at the Los Alamitos, CA, facility, an FAA-approved repair location.
