Sumitomo Facility Opened in Louisville

A new facility was opened by Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America (SMA) in Louisville, Kentucky on September 1 in response to increasing demand for the company's power transmission products in the United States. The plant joins four other United States. locations for Sumitomo production: Glendale Heights, IL, Carrolton, TX, Corona, CA and the corporate headquarters in Chesapeake, VA.

"Geographically, the new Louisville facility is almost equidistant between the Illinois and Chesapeake facilities, and it's very close to the UPS Worldport," says James Travers, vice president of SMA business operations. "As part of Sumitomo's growth plans, this facility will provide regional service support for local material and parcel handling OEMs, as well as serve the Ohio Valley region. The facility will initially focus on the assembly of Hyponics, increasing corporate capacity by approximately 350 units per month. Future plans include Cyclo assembly and service support."
