STEAM Magazine for Kids Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

The award-winning magazine, beanz, bringing educational and inspirational content about science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) to children, is celebrating its 10th anniversary (and 67th edition). Published by Kids Code & Computer Science, Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, beanz’ editorial team has produced award-winning magazines since 2013.

The magazine covers a wide range of content from STEAM topics to the global impacts of technology, inclusion of different cultures, and how technology is used in different parts of the world. Expert staff writers are classroom STEAM teachers, technologists, and journalists. It continues to grow globally marked by three additions to its editorial team — two cover STEAM related stories in Europe and Latin America; and the third creates music with digital tools. Beanz also unveiled a newly enhanced website experience including video and news wire content between issues and a new online newsletter.

“We are excited to celebrate this major milestone and share our continued growth,” said Tim Slavin, publisher. “Exposure to STEAM is proven to help kids develop problem-solving skills, encourages creativity and collaboration, and teaches technologies like coding,” he added.

The magazine continues to expand its distribution reaching more children in at-risk communities. Donors play an important role in broadening kids’ access to STEAM education and digital literacy, regardless of their life circumstances. The magazine is currently donated to Title 1 schools and MagLiteracy.org which distributes free copies of beanz throughout North America. It follows many of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) curriculum guidelines and makes technology fun and easy to learn for kids ages 8+. There are no ads in beanz. It relies on subscriptions and donations.
