Ogura Brakes Rated for Higher Torque

The Ogura OPB series of magnetic particle brakes features the OPB 120N and OPB 250N, rated at 110 inch-pounds and 220 inch-pounds respectively. Before these product introductions, the largest model in the OPB series was rated at 70 inch-pounds.

Heat dissipation of the 120N is 80 watts while heat dissipation of the 250N is 100 watts, but both brakes have an optional mounted fan to increase heat dissipation to 200 watts and 240 watts respectively. The brakes are mostly used to control tension of foil, film, wire and paper, but other applications with soft stops are appropriate. Since output torque is almost directly proportional to input voltage/current, torque can be controlled quickly and accurately. The brakes are designed to be less expensive than the older PB series, and they will be more readily available, according to Ogura.
