Nord Brings Innovative Solutions to the Table at IBIE

Nord Drivesystems will be attending this year’s International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) held September 13–17 in Las Vegas, NV. Smooth Surface Gear Motors: Designed with Washdown in Mind
Made from high-strength, naturally corrosion resistant aluminum alloy, Nord smooth surface gearmotors are ideal for applications where sanitation and cleanliness are essential. Thanks to the smooth housing, particles have no ridges or cavities to cling to, making them easy to remove during cleaning. This product offering includes four continuous duty premium efficient asynchronous motor sizes ranging from 0.16 to 1.5 hp and a range of Nordbloc.1 helical inline gear units, Nordbloc.1 helical bevel 93.1 gear units, and Universal SMI gear units. Additional motor protection is available with options such as potted terminal boxes, condensation drain holes, space heaters, and moisture resistant varnished dipped windings.

Universal SMI worm gear units are characterized by a compact design with high power density, enabling considerable advantages in tight installation spaces compared to other drives. They feature both a closed surface and smooth surface housing design ideal for hygienic environments.

Unicase Worm Gear Units: Flexible, Energy Efficient Solution

Unicase worm gear units offer maximum strength and rigidity in a compact, one-piece housing. A recent update to series expands their power range up to 20 hp and the output torque up to 27,066 lb-in without any change to the external dimensions or connection dimensions of the gear units. Like Nord’s other Unicase gear units, these units also offer quiet operation, a robust design for long service life and easy maintenance, and high overload capacity.

Unicase Helical Bevel Gear Units: Robust, Reliable Performance

Unicase helical bevel gear units are engineered from a robust, cast-iron housing that provides high axial and radial load capacity, minimum backlash, and efficient performance, making them ideal for heavy-duty applications requiring maximum system availability. They are highly adaptable to various systems thanks to 11 case sizes, a variety of shaft and mounting options, and multiple bearing concepts that support heavy loads such as those in mixing, kneading, and conveying applications.

IE5+ Synchronous Motors: High-Efficiency and Reduced TCO 

IE5+ synchronous motors have a compact, hygienic design with smooth surfaces for inherent corrosion resistance and easy cleaning (TENV fan-less design). They feature permanent magnet technology that enables constant torque efficiency even at low speeds and partial loads, significantly increasing performance, lowering energy costs, and reducing system variants. The motors fully match Nord’s modular system and when supplied as part of a complete gear unit, IP69K surface treatment is available for added environmental protection.

Electronic Control Products

Gearmotors that utilize electronic controls provide precise positioning, without the need for servos or custom components. Nord offers both centralized and decentralized options via a full portfolio of inverters, field distribution systems, and motor starters. Featuring the Nordac Flex, Nord’s most flexible variable frequency drive, which can be adjusted to all customer applications thanks to its scalable functions and modular structure, and the Nordac On/On+, the newest addition to Nord’s controls offering that was developed to meet the special requirements of horizontal conveyor technology. Nord’s control products are engineered for a wide variety of specialized automation applications and include integrated positioning, synchronous motor operation, and STO functions. LogiDrive Complete Drive Solution

LogiDrive is a complete drive solution that utilizes a standardized, service-friendly system to significantly reduce planning and commissioning time. There are basic and advanced versions available for adaptation to a variety of applications. Basic versions include a gear unit, efficient IE3 electric motor, and variable frequency drive with a focus on cost effectiveness. Advanced versions feature a compact gear unit, high efficiency IE5+ synchronous motor, and variable frequency drive that address issues such as energy efficiency, variant reduction, and reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Condition Monitoring for Predictive Maintenance

Condition Monitoring for predictive maintenance utilizes a status-based maintenance approach to extend the service life of components and machines, increase system availability, and reduce service and material costs. With this method, drive and status data are recorded periodically or continuously to optimize the operational safety and efficiency of systems. The data analysis results enable the machines to be proactively maintained and downtimes to be planned. Condition Monitoring additionally can determine the optimal time to change the unit’s oil, ensuring systems always operate at their highest ability.
