The Univel DC Deep Cut Wheels are superabrasive grinding wheels that are designed for manufacturing and reconditioning tools and inserts made of carbide and high speed steel. According to the company's press release,wheels retain the superabrasive grains longer because they are made of a high strength polyimide composite with a brittle bond cutting edge. Therefore, the wheel wear is reduced and the number of parts per dress and total parts per wheel are increased. When these wheels were introduced on a flute grinding application with 1" diameters made of tungsten carbide, the DC wheels reduced cycle time by 40%.
