Hyperdrives Opens New Munich HQ to Expand Electric Propulsion Engineering and Validation Capacity

Hyperdrives, the Munich-based electric propulsion technology company, has expanded its engineering capabilities with the opening of a new headquarters and engineering facility in Munich's Obersendling district, marking an important step in the company's transition from technology development to industrial-scale deployment. 

 

Spanning almost 600 square meters - around six times the size of Hyperdrives' previous facility in Giesing - the new headquarters brings together engineering offices, electronics laboratories, testing infrastructure, prototyping workshops and collaborative workspaces under one roof. The expanded facility provides the space and infrastructure required to support larger customer programs while accelerating the development and validation of Hyperdrives' next-generation electric drive technology.

 

The move follows a period of rapid growth and team expansion. The new headquarters provides room to continue expanding the company’s engineering, manufacturing and commercial teams as customer demand increases across automotive, off-highway, marine, aviation and other electric propulsion markets.

Hyperdrives’ core technology is based on direct hollow-conductor cooling, with a dielectric fluid flowing through hollow copper conductors to remove heat where it is generated. By addressing the thermal bottleneck directly in the winding, Hyperdrives enables significantly smaller, lighter and more material-efficient electric drive systems while building on established hairpin architecture and manufacturing processes. The company is currently working with several global OEMs and supplier across automotive, off-highway, marine, aviation to develop next-generation electric propulsion systems based on its hollow-conductor cooling technology.

 

Beyond additional office space, the new facility provides the infrastructure required to advance this technology beyond a prototype series towards larger customer programs and industrial scale-up. Office, engineering and laboratory spaces are already operational, with further laboratory and validation fit-out continuing over the coming months. The site has also been designed to accommodate a future pilot manufacturing line for Hyperdrives’ proprietary hollow-conductor stator technology, supporting the company’s longer-term roadmap toward future manufacturing capabilities and broader industrial scale-up.

 

“Our previous office was where we proved the technology. This new headquarters is where we build the capabilities to scale it. It gives our engineers the space and infrastructure to develop, prototype and validate complete systems at the level required for larger customer programs – and creates the foundation for our next stage of industrialization,” said Robin Renz, CEO and founder, Hyperdrives.

 

By bringing engineering workplaces, electronics labs, testing and prototyping into one location, Hyperdrives expects to shorten development cycles, deepen collaboration between engineering disciplines and increase the level of vertical integration in its product maturation process.

Renz added:

 

“We built a platform to change the performance ceiling of electric motors - but this is only valuable if it can be industrialized. Our technology was designed from the outset for industrial-scale production, and this move is another step in building the company around that principle. We now have the room to grow the team, expand our validation capabilities and prepare for pilot manufacturing while keeping the speed and flexibility that got us here.”
