Heidenhain’s Newest Linear Encoder Integrates Roller Guide

The LS 1679 from Heidenhain is a sealed linear scale with an integrated roller guide. According to the company's press release, the LS 1679 is available with a resolution of 5 microns or 1 micron after a four-fold evaluation. Space requirements have resulted in the LS 1679 having no pluggable cable assembly so the encoder is available with left or right cable exit to ensure mechanical compatibility with press brakes. In this new encoder, the four ball bearings of the carriage are integrated in the aluminum housing. The combination of these two materials makes for superior wear resistance. The position of the guide in the encoder protects the bearing surfaces from dust and contamination. Standard measuring lengths up to 470 mm are available and longer lengths up to 720 mm are available by request.
