MESYS AG Offers Latest Software Updates for Bearings and Shafts

May 2, 2022

The following article includes some of the new features and capabilities available for MESYS Rolling Bearing Calculation and MESYS Shaft Calculation:

As bearing type number 31, the toroidal roller bearing was added to the MESYS Rolling Bearing Calculation. In contrast to the barrel roller bearing, this has no shoulders, and the roller is not centered within the inner race. The outer race is not a sphere but uses a larger radius. The bearing supports only small axial load, and the radial clearance is dependent on the axial displacement.

New bearing types

For the 2022 version of MESYS Rolling Bearing Calculation double row thrust cylindrical roller bearings are added as bearing type. Then in total 30 bearing types are supported within the software. Before some customers just increased the roller length for single row thrust cylindrical roller bearings, but this leads to different profiling of the rollers.

The addition of output for radial load zone

On customer request an output for the ratio of loaded rolling elements was added to the MESYS Rolling Bearing Calculation. A value of 50% would correspond to a load zone of 180°, 25% would be a load zone of 90°. Here for a cylindrical roller bearing under radial load for three different values of clearance. A small load zone could lead to sliding and using a numeric value allows faster comparisons than comparing graphics.

Color plots for 3D-deformations

Based on a customer request a color plot for displacement fields was now added for MESYS Shaft Calculation version 08/2021. Color plots for harmonic response, stresses or equivalent radiated power had been available before.

Asymmetric spherical roller bearings support

Asymmetric spherical roller bearings are supported in the MESYS Shaft and Rolling Bearing Calculation Software. In the bearing calculation half an asymmetric bearing can be defined and they can be assembled in the shaft calculation. This extension had been requested by a few customers, but as it is not used often this restricted support within the bearing calculation should be acceptable.
