Bodine Electric Introduces New Gearmotor Series

May 28, 2021
Bodine Electric Company introduces twenty new AC gearmotors that are UL listed for use in environments where flammable gases or vapors may accidentally be spilled or leak into the operating area. These integral geared motors combine Bodine’s high-performance type 34R variable- or fixed-speed AC motors with a parallel shaft type FX gearhead. Typical applications include chemical injection pumps for the oil and gas industry, chemical processing plants, dry cleaning plants or industrial coating and mixing facilities.

Electrical equipment used in hazardous locations must comply with various safety standards. These new AC gearmotors meet NEC Class I, Division 2 requirements for areas that might encounter accidental spills of flammable liquids or vapors, and are rated for use in areas where groups A, B, C or D chemicals such as acetone, gasoline, and ethanol are commonly found. The gearmotors meet UL temperature code T3C. These type 34R-FX gearmotors meet an IP-44 environmental protection rating, meaning the interior of the gearmotor or terminal box are protected from sprayed water and foreign objects that are greater than 1mm in diameter.

The initial product launch includes twenty standard models with gear ratios from 5:1 to 300:1 with speeds from 5.7 to 340 rpm. Rated torque ranges from 24 lb-in (2.7 Nm) to 350 lb-in (40 Nm). Bodine Class I Division 2 gearmotors are available with 230/460VAC three phase, inverter-duty variable-speed windings, or 115VAC permanent split capacitor (PSC), non-synchronous fixed speed windings. The permanent split capacitor models include a pre-wired run capacitor inside the terminal box. Both versions are shipped with a factory-installed terminal box, and a terminal block inside the t-box.

The 34R6-FX gearmotors can be base or side-wall mounted with the model 0969 L-bracket kit. The model 0995 three-hole adaptor plate provides an easy way to replace various competitor gearmotors.

Bodine Class I Division 2 gearmotors and the 0931 base mount kit are available through Bodine’s extensive distributor network or from the Bodine web site. Custom options are available to qualified OEMs. Typical OEM modifications include custom windings or wire harnesses, application-specific mounting options, or special drive shafts.
