Want to design gears that are... Smaller... Stronger... Lighter... Cheaper... Perform better?

Shot peening is a post manufacturing process that improves fatigue strength meaning that gears can perform under higher loads for longer but with no increase in dimension or weight.  It works by inducing a layer of compressive residual stress preventing or delaying the initiation and propogation of fatigue cracks especially in the root radius.  When combined with isotropic superfinishing (C.A.S.E.) transmissions benefit from protection against micro-pitting, improved efficiency, lower operating temperature and reduced wear.
