January 10, 2012—Kistler, a worldwide supplier of precision sensors, systems and instrumentation for the dynamic measurement of pressure, force, torque and acceleration, has introduced additional measuring ranges of 15 kN and 5 kN for its Type 2160A NC electromechanical joining modules. New ranges of the Kistler Type 2160A further expand the existing model offerings of 50 kN and 25 kN, forming a complete product family which occupies the same dimensional footprint as legacy models, and allowing the series to measure a wider range of forces. With a 200 mm stroke and cost-optimized design, the new joining module measures just 750 mm long, allowing for ease of module incorporation into various assembly system types. The Type 2160A also offers a high-traverse speed of 250 mm/s, ensuring short cycle times. Its integral piezoelectric force sensor, used for measuring in the direction of the pressure, offers a higher overload factor. The Kistler Type 2160A NC joining module is also available with optional holding brake. Kistler NC compact firmware (Type 2159A) is loaded onto the servo controller for simple force-displacement evaluation and documentation of standard joining processes with the NC joining module NCFB.  With very low capital and installation costs, the firmware facilitates integration into existing user control environments. For the control of complex processes and comprehensive monitoring via more than 30 tolerance window types, the use of either force displacement unit DMF-P A310 Universal Type 4740A or DMF-P A300 NCF Type 4734A is recommended. With the aid of a variety of tolerance windows, the units can evaluate the complex force-displacement curves of virtually any application. They can also comprehensively document curve and associated set points with actual measured values.
