Formsprag Clutch Introduces Clutches and Brakes for Aerospace Applications

September 30, 2016

Formsprag Clutch recently launched a line of electromagnetic brakes that start, stop and hold loads in position with precise control for aerospace applications including flap actuators, drones, munitions, motor brakes, winch and tensioning systems, satellites, ball screw drives and robotic arms. The new line includes permanent and electromagnetic power-off friction and holding brakes.

The new line of aerospace electromagnetic clutches from Formsprag are designed to transmit rotational energy with the speed of a contact closure. These clutches are ideal for use on aircraft alternators, instrumentation, starters, pumps, motors, transmissions, valves and gearboxes.

Formsprag Clutch, an AS9100 certified designer and manufacturer of creative and visionary power transmission solutions, has decades of aerospace experience starting with the original B52 program.

Formsprag engineers consistently exceed their customer’s expectations by providing insightful advice and superior technical support to help ensure successful aerospace programs. Formsprag’s precision manufacturing capabilities utilize state-of-the-art grinding and heat treat processes for reliability, durability, and friction control. Lower weight, reduced size, and lower energy are achieved utilizing electromagnetic design software complemented by a vast product design portfolio. Innovative Formsprag clutches and brakes incorporate the most advanced technologies including diamond-coated friction material.
