Miki Pulley PBZ Variable Torque Brakes Feature Magnetic Particle Brakes

December 16, 2015

Miki Pulley has introduced their PBZ Variable Torque Brakes for direct sale to OEMs in North America. Ideal for variable torque tensioning control in automated packaging systems and similar applications, these brakes provide adjustable and precise torque control.

Unlike conventional mechanical brakes, PBZ Variable Torque Brakes are magnetic particle brakes. They utilize self-contained, magnetic particles that slow, stop, hold and restart a system with repeatable accuracy. The torque is independent of the slip speed and is variable from zero to the rated torque.

The PBZ’s precise fast engagement ensures accurate positioning without jolts or jerking motions. This feature enables repeatable positioning of plastic films, including labels, bar codes and other packaging elements, with accuracy. Similarly, accurate positioning of wire in electronics and fiber thread in garment fabrication is ensured using Miki Pulley Variable Torque Brakes. A gradual or fast engagement setting is adjustable for different application requirements. The adjustment range is variable up to the brake’s control circuit capacity.

Another significant feature of the Miki Pulley PBZ Variable Torque Brakes is that they have no wearing components, unlike mechanical and similar brakes with calipers and friction surfaces that wear out. PBZ brakes are unaffected by atmospheric conditions, so they are well suited for temperature extremes in a wide range of operating environments.

Available in three 24/80V models with rated torque of 3, 6 and 12 Nm, all three sizes have a 400 r/min allowable rotation.
