Atlanta Gear Works Expands Engineering Department

March 4, 2021
Atlanta Gear Works has grown its engineering department by hiring mechanical engineer John B. Conway, BME, MBA, MSF. Conway is the third generation of the Conway family to work for the company founded by his father and grandfather in 1988.

A graduate of Auburn University, Conway spent his college summers as an AGW engineering intern, working in all parts of the business from engineering and production to field service at major manufacturing plants throughout the Southeast.

In addition to his practical experience, Conway served in graduate school on two award-winning simulation teams and worked as a graduate assistant at the Auburn University Office of Innovation performing patent research. He also brings financial experience from training as a financial analyst with a major national investment firm.

AGW is culture-driven, with a premium on a sense of community, customer service and the ability to handle the toughest problems with quality and integrity.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to be part of this company,” said Conway. “I love the culture, which is a great incentive to keep pushing.”

Atlanta Gear Works designs, engineers, builds, rebuilds and repairs heavy industrial gearboxes for some of America’s leading manufacturers with the goal of minimizing and preventing downtime. It also repairs other process-critical rotating equipment and continues to grow its field service division to provide extensive field machining and repair.

In its 34,000-square-foot plant, Atlanta Gear Works also has a full in-house machine shop where it cuts spur, helical, double-helical and worm gears; rebuilds all brands of gears and gearboxes; and creates new gears and gearboxes from both samples and prints.

“We’ve built our reputation on responsive service and quality work,” said President Jack Conway. “John understands this and knows what is expected of him.”

Available 24/7, AGW crews will work overnight when necessary to fulfill the company pledge: “Any make, any model, anywhere, anytime, repaired or reverse-engineered to equal or better quality. Guaranteed.”
