Beckhoff Releases AM8000 Servomotor Series

September 26, 2012
In order to greatly simplify cabling efforts for high-performance servo motors, Beckhoff Automation has released the new AM8000 servomotor series. The main highlight of the AM8000 is the new single-cable technology, with which the power and feedback system are combined into one standard motor cable. Motion system materials and installation costs can be significantly lowered when using the innovative AM8000. These rotary synchronous servomotors are also characterized by high dynamics, energy efficiency and low costs. With the new single-cable technology from Beckhoff, which operates without an additional feedback cable, power and process data are transmitted in one standard motor cable. The encoder data, rotor position, multi-turn information and the status of the thermal conditions in the motor are transmitted reliably and free from interference via a digital interface. The benefits include significant cost savings, since plug connectors and cables are eliminated at both the motor and the controller ends. The AM8000 series encompasses six different motor sizes, each with two or three optional overall lengths, so that the widest possible torque range is covered seamlessly with overlaps. The user can select a motor suitable for universal use from a stall torque range of 0.9 to 65 Nm. Sophisticated rotor and stator technologies represent the foundation of the new servo motor. Among other things, modern salient pole winding technology is used in the motor, which enables an even higher slot fill factor. Small end turns, in conjunction with a fully encapsulated stator, provide robustness and excellent thermal management. Through an optimized design and use of high-quality materials, it was possible to increase AM8000 energy efficiency by more than 10 percent compared to conventional servomotors.
