Bishop Wisecarver Sponsors Charity Fashion Event

April 8, 2006
Bishop Wisecarver Corp., a manufacturer of guided motion technology, partially sponsored Wardrobe for Opportunity's second annual Power of Change fall fashion event, held Oct. 26 at Oakland's Rotunda building. In addition to her company's support of the event, Pamela Kan, president of Bishop-Wisecarver,joined Wardrobe for Opportunity's Sponsorship Committee, and encouraged other local businesses to donate silent auction items, serve as event sponsors, and attend the event. "All of us here at Bishop-Wisecarver Corp. support organizations that help people who want to join the active, working community," Kan says. "I heard a quote that a person should not be kept from a job for the lack of a suit, and it made me want to help people get the suit they need to get the job they want." The event, raised nearly $35,000 for a non-profit organization that provides professional clothing and career support to low-income jobseekers. The show celebrated the career and personal success of past Wardrobe for Opportunity clients, acknowledged sponsors and supporters, and recognized the transformative power of clothing. Wardrobe for Opportunity clients modeled stylish business attire and accessories provided by the organization's boutique-style facilities, and waived to the cheering crowds. George Zimmer, president of the Men's Wearhouse, gave the keynote address. The show also featured wine tasting by local wineries, hors d'oeuvres, and a delectable chocolate fountain. Nicole Levine, executive director of Wardrobe for Opportunity, says the group could not do the work they do without the support of the community, which includes more than 200 volunteers, suit and accessory donations from thousands of individuals, and financial sponsorship from local companies and foundations. ?We are so fortunate to have Bishop-Wisecarver's partnership and Pamela's passion, energy and commitment to our mission,? Levine says. This year's show drew nearly 300 people--up from 225 last year. Funds raised at this year's show will be doubled through a matching grant from the Morris Foundation.
