Formosa Heavy Industries Corporation (FHI) is a subsidiary of the conglomerate Formosa Plastics Group.

FHI specializes in the manufacture of large, low speed, high torque gear drives. Units with pitch line velocities (PLV) up to 60 meters per second (11,811 fpm) can be designed by FHI. FHI will gladly manufacture units per customer furnished drawings and specifications up to 100 meters per second PLV. FHI is under license from RENK of Germany.

FHI's gear plant is equipped with state-of-the-art machine tools. Most of our machines are computer numerically controlled (CNC) for higher efficiency and accuracy. Our in-house heat treat department, one of the finest in the world, can maximize both the strength and durability of your gearing. FHI achieved ISO 9001 certification in 1994.

FHI also welcomes the opportunity to manufacture loose gearing and perform overhaul and repair on existing gearboxes. FHI can carburize and precision grind gears up to 2.5 meters (98") in diameter and hob gears up to 7.5 meters (295") in diameter.

Our customers include the steel, aluminum, cement, mining, petrochemical, sugar, plastics and rubber industries. We work at both the site and engineering levels of the business.
